October is Celiac Awareness Month!

Rudi's Gluten-Free Giveaway

Rudi's Gluten-Free Giveaway

Celiac disease affects over 3 million Americans, and yet 95% of them aren’t even aware that they have it.  It is an autoimmune digestive disease that damages the villi in the small intestine and causes a person to have difficulty absorbing nutrients from food.  Basically, the body is attacking itself every time a person with Celiac consumes gluten.  In fact, the disease is triggered by consumption of the protein, gluten, which is found in wheat, barley, and rye.  If someone with Celiac consumes foods containing gluten, the body is unable to absorb nutrients properly into the bloodstream and can lead to malnourishment.

Yet, this disease is difficult to diagnose as it has over 300 symptoms and some people don’t show any of them.

The only treatment for this disease is to go gluten-free.

Thankfully this isn’t as difficult as it once was.

In fact, my friends at Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery are celebrating this month with a giveaway!  And who doesn’t love a giveaway?

Go to Rudi’s Facebook Page to join in the celebration with their 31 Days of Glorious Gluten-Free Giveaways.  Rudi’s is posting some fun Celiac awareness games for their followers and are giving away great prizes like free loaves of their (DELICIOUS) gluten-free bread, free T-shirts, and even gluten-free toasters!  It’s a fun and great way to spread the word about this silent disease!

Head over to Facebook and join in the gluten-free fun!

And thank you, Rudi’s, for spreading the word about Celiac and going gluten-free during Celiac Awareness Month.

I LOVE Rudi’s bread!!! Thank you SO much for NOT including guar gum in your mix!! Not many realize that many, many celiacs also can’t tolerate guar gum. Many makers of gluten free foods use guar gum adn probably don’t even realize we can’t tolerate that either. Thanks SO much to Rudi’s for recognizing the differrence.
