Remember the old adage that it’s better to give than to receive? In these days of hard times and a harsh economy, the holiday season can seem more like Grinchmas than Christmas. Budgets get tighter and stress levels rise. Sometimes it’s just easier to say ‘Bah Humbug!’ than to greet someone with ‘Merry Christmas’ or ‘Happy Holidays.’ Some people judge how much you love them by how much you spend on them. And some people can’t afford to put gifts under the tree even for their little ones.
The holidays bring out the best and (unfortunately) the worst in people.
But the holidays also symbolize my favorite time of year to break out the baking pans and buy up fresh ingredients and dole out a little holiday cheer to the people I care about. I love to show up at my local bank with a tin full of cookies for them to share. I love handing a plate of goodies over to the hard-working employees at the local gas station. I love bringing a little smile to the faces of the people I care about. I love to cook up dinners for friends and invite them over to share the holiday with me.
The spirit of giving is really what matters.
My friends at Rudi’s Gluten-Free Bakery are definitely in the holiday spirit. They have provided a fantastic Rudi’s Swag Bag to give away to one lucky blog reader! How exciting is that? The swag bag is pictured here:

Before learning I had a severe gluten intolerance one of my favorite relaxing things to do was make a pot of tea and small finger sandwiches. I use Rudi’s original bread and make the same little sandwiches using ham and cheese, or I make my own egg salad, or I peanut butter and jam! Simple but wonderfully satisfying and relaxing.
